Evanescence is a rock/alternative/pop[1] band from Little Rock, Arkansas, USA.
Early in their career, the rock band garnered local fame in Little Rock before releasing their first major label album Fallen, which went on to sell over 14 million copies worldwide.[2]
Although usually categorized as rock, Evanescence does not easily fit into any one rock subcategory. The band is sometimes labeled by media sources as, and takes influences from, gothic rock, alternative rock, nu metal, piano rock, arena rock, and Wagnerian rock (the latter especially in the group's videos). _________________ Cititi Regulamentul |

(scz e ora 12:12 ma apuca dar she ma iubeste cnva;)
edit:
In ceea ce priveste aceasta trupa, ea a avut norocul de a fie promovata in industria muzicala.
Melodiile „Bring me to life” , „My immortal”, „Tourniquet”, „Taking over me” sau „My last breath” impresioneaza prin delicatetea si puterea vocii solistei. Evanescence canta despre urcarea in rai, iubire si sinucidere.
Evanescence is band from Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. Evanescence is usually catagorized as rock, but they don't fit into any of rock subcategorys. They are sometimes labeled as gothic rock, alternative rock, nu metal, piano rock, arena rock, and Wagnerian rock.
Evanescence band was found by singer, pianist, and songwriter Amy Lee and previous Evanescence band member, songwriter and lead guitarist Ben Moody. The two of them met in a youth camp in Arkansas.
They discovered they had the same passion towards music, and they began to write songs together. The songs were altered lyrically and musically by them.
For some time, they were unable to recruit additional musicians and did not have sufficient funds to for professional assistance. That's why they were also unable to play live shows. However two songs "Understanding" and "Give Unto Me", found their way into local music charts, and demand for live show increased. They went through several names, including Childish Intentions, and Stricken, before deciding they will go under the name Evanescence (from the word "evanescent", meaning the act of vanishing, synonymous to disappearing).
Their first full-lenght demo CD, origin (released in 2000), is relativly unknown. The band also released two EPs. First, was titled Evanescence EP (1998) of which only 100 copies were made, and second one Sound Asleep EP, also known as the Whisper EP (1999), limited to only 50 copies. Origin was made in only 2500 copies, so now can be found only by those who are villing to pay the hundreds of dollars the discs now worth. In response to this, Lee and Moody encouraged fans to download the band's older songs from the Internet during a interview.
Originally considered by many to be part of the Christian rock scene, and for a short time promoted in Christian stores, eventually the band made it clear that they did not want to be considered a Christian rock band.
Their first major album was Fallen, and it was certified 6x Platinum, it spent 43 weeks in the top billboard Top 10 and has sold in over 14 million copies worldwide. As of April 2005 it is one of eight albums in history to spend a full year in the Billboard Top 50.
Evanescence's major label single "Bring me to life", which features guest vocals from Paul McCoy of 12 Stones, was a global hit for the band and reached #5 on the American Billboard Hot 100. It also provided Evanescence with their first and so far only UK #1, where it stayed for four weeks, from June-July 2003. "My Immortal" was as popular as "Bring me to life". It was rated #7 in the U.S.A and U.K. charts.
On October 22, 2003, Moody left the band in the middle of a European tour.
Their album "Anywhere But Home" was released in 2004. It is DVD/CD compilation. The DVD is their live from Paris show. The CD included containes a song entitled "Missing" which was previously unleashed, and reached #1 in Spain. Also on the CD are "Breath No More" (from Electra soundtrack) and "Father Away".
Their second official album "The Open Door" was released in U.S.A on October 3, 2006, in U.K. October 2, and in Australia September 30. It has 13 tracks. It was sold in 447,000 copies in the U.S.A in the first week of sales, and earned their first #1 ranking on the Billboard 200 album chart. _________________ |

Having sold nearly 14 million records worldwide, well more than 6 million in the U.S. alone, with their major-label debut Fallen, Evanescence is poised to continue their meteoric rise with their forthcoming CD, The Open Door (Wind-up Records), scheduled for release October 3. The album from the two-time Grammy-winning band is defined by Amy Lee's beautiful melodies, compelling lyrics, poignant piano and stunning vocals, fused with Terry Balsamo's urgent, yet intricate guitar, to form a seamless, ethereal mixture that perfectly channels the band's hard rock and classical sensibilities. The contributions of members John LeCompt (guitar) and Rocky Gray (drums) are also evident.
"Making this record has been really intense," explains Lee. "Terry suffered a stroke last October and is still recovering, we got a new manager [Andy Lurie], and I've come out of a difficult breakup. But everything we've been through together has benefited this album." With Fallen, says Lee, the band had much to prove while defining its identity. This time, finding a cohesive writing partner in Terry Balsamo, "we really took our time crafting this album and had the freedom to express a broader range of emotions: not just pain and sadness, but also anger and, yes, even happiness."
Written late last year, The Open Door was recorded at The Record Plant in Los Angeles and mixed at Ocean Way Studios in March 2006. Marking the return of long-time friend and producer Dave Fortman, the album's musical elements conține a classically-infused choir and strings on several tracks, giving further color to songs of introspection, longing, doubt, self-respect and, ultimately, empowerment. The album opens with "Sweet Sacrifice," a post-relationship catharsis that head-dives from an otherworldly intro into a hard-driving thrash of hard rock guitars and soaring rock vocals. Its first single, the mid-tempo "Call Me When You're Sober," reinforces the moving-away-from-dysfunction theme.
Other standout tracks on The Open Door include "Lithium," which embraces feeling over numbness, "All That I'm Living For," Lee's tribute to band life, "Weight of the World," her plea for perspective from the expectation of young fans, and "Good Enough," a string-and-choir-infused closer distinguished as the band's first truly (almost) contented song ("It feels really good ending the album this way," says Lee). Having toured for a year-and-a-half straight with only a month off following the release of Fallen, Evanescence hopes to hit the road this time out with a care not to neglect key markets worldwide. Its U.S. tour begins immediately after the October 3rd release of The Open Door, rewarding hardcore fans with a "sneak peak" of the album during a handful of more intimate theater dates before segueing into much larger arena shows.
Originally hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, the band's evolving sound - a nearly mystical marriage between rock, goth and classical - was informed by a curious duality. Lee, who spent nine years studying classical piano, explains, "When I was in high school I listened to a lot of death metal bands. Both genres are intricate, complex types of music that are very dramatic, and I'm naturally drawn to that."
Evanescence self-released two EPs and a first full-length album, the much-sought-after Origin, before finding a home at Wind-up Records. Fallen, their major-label debut, was released in April 2003 to critical and commercial success. The internationally appealing Top 10 singles "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal" helped drive airplay and led to two 2003 Grammy Awards (Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance for "Bring Me To Life"). Propelling the band to sales of nearly 14 million albums worldwide, Fallen spent more than 100 weeks on Billboard's Top 200 chart, was certified gold or platinum in over 35 countries, and sold out arenas globally. Anywhere But Home, their 2004 live DVD release, has sold over one million copies to date.
The inherent drama in Evanescence's music - a kind of audio odyssey that can turn on a dime from piano-led introspection to hammering guitar - has resonated with listeners everywhere. The band's aggressive core finds a counterpart in Lee's passionate vocals, lyrics that forge a connection with audiences searching for identity or struggling with feelings of desire, hope love and loss. The Open Door is a logical (but certainly not predictable) transformation of epic proportions for the band, which, in many ways has only just begun to make its mark on the music world.

Evanescence a fost fondatã de solista ºi pianista Amy Lee ºi cofondatorul, chitaristul Ben Moody. Cei doi s-au întâlnit în Ankansas, unde Moody a auzito pe Amy cântând "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" de Meat Loaf la pian. Inițialul lor cântec a fost "Solitude" ºi "Give Unto Me", scrise de Lee, ºi "Understanding" ºi "My immortal" scrise de Moody. | dark_angel a scris: | Evanescence a fost fondatã de solista ºi pianista Amy Lee ºi cofondatorul, chitaristul Ben Moody. Cei doi s-au întâlnit în Ankansas, unde Moody a auzito pe Amy cântând "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" de Meat Loaf la pian. Inițialul lor cântec a fost "Solitude" ºi "Give Unto Me", scrise de Lee, ºi "Understanding" ºi "My immortal" scrise de Moody. Componente unice ca „My Immortal”,„Going Under” ºi „Bring Me To Life” le poþi asculta la nesfîrºit. Componenþa formaþiei erau prietenii cofondatorilor Amy Lee ºi Ben Moody, John LeCompt, Rocky Gray ºi Will Boyd, fiecare contribuind la cântecele Evanescence Debutantul lor album, Fallen, a câºtigat de 6 ori premiul Platinum, a stat 43 de sãptãmâni in BillBoard Top 10 ºi a fost vândut în peste 14 milioane de copii în toatã lumea. A youth group summer camp for good little girls and boys. However, things get a bit darker when a 14 year-old Ben Moody hears the enchanting melody of Meatloaf's "Id do Anything for Love" played ever so perfectly on a piano. The curious boy whom is deeply attracted to the music follows its soothing sound and notices a 13 year-old Amy Lee is its creator. As Lee continues to embellish her talents to the boy in awe, the band Evanescence was not too far behind the young soon-to-be stars. The two became good friends and a few weeks later, Evanescence was created.
With Lee as lead vocalist and Moody as everything else, the band started playing at small cafes and places of such. Lee's father (whom at the time was a Local D.J. for a more "sophisticated" audience) played some of the songs his daughter created. The response was wonderful. The sound had been like nothing anyone had ever heard before. The only music in Little Rock was either "Oldies" or Death-Metal.
Evanescence was known for emitting a mysterious and dark sound with deep lyrics. That sound helped pave the way to stardom. Their first-ever album, "Origin", (which was only released in Little Rock) had such great response that it sent them to New York to work on a debut album for the entire country.
Soon, the band was evolved with the accompaniment of John LeCompt (2nd Guitar) Will Boyd (Bass) and Rocky Gray (drums). They helped sculpt the band and more importantly, they helped sculpt the vision Moody and Lee had in their minds.
The band released their debut album "Fallen" in February of 2003 which had two of the album's songs in the movie Dare Devil. Since then, controversy has circled around the band such as the band being a Christian band and etc. Also, just recently, Ben Moody has left the band because he feels that it has become "all about the girl" and the band Seether's guitarist has temporarily filled in the spot".
Although some rocky roads have been endured through the ride of fame, I can safely say the band will continue to rock on and it will never die. _________________ Viatza e ca o tzigara ........ fumeaz-o pana la capat !!! Evanescence is:
Amy Lee
Ben Moody
John Lecompt
Rocky Gray
The band is named after the word evanescence which is usually defined as "the act or state of vanishing". Originally considered by many to be part of the Christian rock scene — and for a short time promoted in Christian stores — the band, however, made it explicitly clear they do not want to be considered a Christian rock band. Christian stores removed Evanescence from their shelves.
Evanescence's debut single "Bring Me to Life" was a global hit for the band and reached #5 on the American Billboard Hot 100. It was included in the soundtrack for the action movie Daredevil, along with their even more popular "My Immortal," and garnered recognition for the band at the Grammy Awards of 2004: The single was awarded Best Hard Rock Performance, and Evanescence was awarded Best New Artist.
Their first full length album, Origin (released in 2000), is relatively unknown. The Band also released two EPs in 1998 and 1999 which are difficult to find, and thus highly sought after by collectors. Not atypical, Origin and the EPs contain demo versions of some of the songs on their first major-label album. In fact, the recording of "My Immortal" found on Fallen can also be found on Origin, minus a handful of additional instrumental accompaniments. However, Lee herself does not consider the record to be an actual album; rather, she considers it merely a bundle of demo songs (some of which she says are not done properly) that was sent to record companies. Only 2500 copies of this record were ever made, and it is thus not generally available in record stores. In response, Lee encouraged fans to download the band's older songs from the internet during an interview.
The group was founded by Lee and former lead guitarist Ben Moody. The two met at a youth camp in Arkansas, where Moody heard Lee playing "(I'd Do) Anything For Love" by Meat Loaf on the piano. They discovered they shared a love of Jimi Hendrix and Björk, and they began to write songs together. For some time they were unable to find other musicians to play with, and did not have the funds to pay for professional assistance, thus they were unable to play live shows. However, a song of theirs entitled "Understanding" found its way onto local music charts, and demand for a live show increased. When the band finally did make an appearance, they became one of the most popular acts in the area.
In October 2003, Moody left the band abruptly in the middle of a European tour. The reasons for his departure are currently unknown. In an interview several months later, Lee said "we'd gotten to a point that if something didn't change, we wouldn't have been able to make a second record." Since then, Lee has said it was almost a relief that he left because of tensions created within the band. Terry Balsamo, from Cold joined the band, replacing Moody.
Evanescence is currently working on their second album, rumored to be ready for release in late 2005. Amy Lee, in an interview, has stated that the first single from this album will be called 'Prisoner for a Long Day'. Another song, rumored to be on the album, is the to-be-renamed song called "The Last Song I'm Wasting On You".
Evanescence fits roughly into the generic genre of rock, but in fact sounds quite different among its arsenal of songs. Many say that the band is goth rock, which is true in certain respects. Certainly, many of its songs focus on life's negative moments and darker themes such as lost love, loneliness and death. The piano plays a significant role in the majority of the band's music.
Critics have accused Evanescence of not being "wannabe" goth rockers, but really just pop. Lee, however, dismisses these labels and refuses to categorize and (to paraphrase) put in a box the band's music since she believes Evanescence has a unique sound.
Often, the band is often compared to nu-metal band Linkin Park, but many fans find this comparison innaccurate because it is based solely on their single "Bring Me to Life", which features the lead singer of Twelve Stones rapping over a short section of the music. This is not reflective of most of the other music, both on Fallen and in their earlier work. Other bands Evanescence has been compared to conține Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Within Temptation. Often, the covers that Evanescence does live come from modern prog/art bands, such as A Fără cusur Circle and Korn. This may say something about their influences. !!!
